Mozart violin concerto no. 5 with Edo de Waart and the Chicago Symphony (2015)
The 31-year-old Hadelich has both talent and promise, but he doesn't flaunt them. The airy grace of his playing suited the well-mannered poise of Mozart's music. The soloist wove a silvery thread of finely focused tone through each page of the score, supported by de Waart's neat if rather faceless accompaniment, which used an intimate complement of players. [...] Hadelich entered fully into the playful, vivacious spirit of the rondo-finale, not a hair out of place despite his quicksilver tempo. The most characterful playing he reserved for his own, stylish cadenzas. His most recent recording, a pairing of Mendelssohn and Bartok concertos on the Avie label, makes one want to hear him in similar repertory at the CSO.
